Lessie Wainwright — or “Granny” as she is known to family and friends, went to culinary school and cooked professionally for years. She cooked for dignitaries and some of the wealthiest clients in the south, as well as New York, and Maryland. Even after standing on her feet for hours, Granny was never too tired to cook for family.
Granny was a perfectionist. She followed recipes to a “T” and created numerous recipes of her own. Granny was the type of woman who would stand over you and watch while you cooked to make sure that everything was going according to plan. She would always say, “Cooking is like a science. No short cuts allowed!” Granny would spend hours in the kitchen experimenting with different ingredients, sauces, and flavor profiles to perfect her craft. Cooking to Granny was like painting to Picasso.
