Lessie Wainwright – or “Granny” as she is known to family and friends, went to culinary school and cooked professionally for years. She cooked for dignitaries and some of the wealthiest clients in the South, as well as New York and Maryland. Even after standing on her feet for hours, Granny was never too tired to cook for family.
Granny was a perfectionist. She followed recipes to a “T” and created numerous recipes of her own. Granny was the type of woman who would stand over you and watch while you cooked to make sure that everything was according to plan. She would always say “Cookin is like a science. No short cuts allowed!” Granny would spend hours in the kitchen experimenting with different ingredients, sauces, and flavor profiles to perfect her craft. Cooking to Granny was like painting to Picasso.
On Sundays, one would think that Granny was selling dinners out of her house, because people would just coincidentally “happen to be in the neighborhood” right around dinner time. Everyone knew that Granny’s house was the place to go for great food and great company – a place where you were family. The wonderful aromas that floated from her kitchen, and the delightful tastes and comforting feelings that came with every bite, was what one felt sitting at her table. Granny has passed all of these wonderful principles, ethics, and recipes to her family, who collectively have over 100 years of experience, and lucky for you, a restaurant.
GRANNY’S RESTAURANT CONCEPT
Granny’s Restaurant opened its doors for business in Owings Mills, Maryland in the Spring of 2008.
Granny’s is a great place where you can just “happen to be in the neighborhood”and where you will be welcomed and treated like family.
Granny’s is a symbol of days gone by, where fast food was not an option and everything was made from scratch. Family and Friends gathered to relax and enjoy a home-cooked meal made with lots of goodness and most of all…Love.
